New bill calls for Alberta judges to be trained in sexual assault law, recognizing stereotypes

The Alberta government has introduced a bill that would require new provincial court Alberta judges to be trained in sexual assault law and in recognizing stereotypes that lead to prejudice and social bias against victims.

Rape culture is held up by the absence or lack of enforcement of laws addressing sexual violence, and by victim-blaming beliefs and other stereotypes about sexual violence and trauma that both normalize and trivialize sexual violence, and responsibilize those who experience sexual violence rather than those who perpetrate it.
